Lawrence County Rock and Mineral Show

June 26, 27 and 28 was the annual rock and mineral show hosted by the Lawrence County Rock Club.
On the way to Bedford, Indiana, where the show was held, we passed through an area that has a lot of Amish.  Meg snapped this picture of someone turning into the Walmart parking lot.
There were 3 buildings full of mineral dealers set up at the Lawrence County Fair Grounds - lots and lots of pretty rocks.
Some of the dealers we knew.  This is Kerry Jones who will be in Alaska at the same time that we are scheduled to install Meg's stone sculpture in Anchorage.
There was an over-whelming choice of specimens, like this HUGE calcite group.
My favorite piece that I brought home was this sparkly, druzy quartz with hematite rosettes.  This came from Miss Betty's goat farm in Park Hills, MO.  From what I understand, Miss Betty is over 80 years old and she digs these things out of the ground herself.

Happy Birthdays

In the past, I'd usually go on some adventure for my birthday...
or go up to see my old college room mate, Tom Mitts, whose birthday is the day after mine.
This year, Tom came down to my place.  Meg snapped this picture from the top of her caboose.
Paul Breslin (another college friend), his wife Maggie and daughter Sarah, Sarah's friend Olivia and her mom, Wendy also showed up.  It's hard for me to not go on some type of outdoor adventure on my birthday.  So, we loaded up in my pick-up to explore Flint Run in the Yellowbank Wildlife Management Area.
 Every discovery is worth sharing.
Sarah and her best friend Olivia found a deep pool behind a beaver dam.
What do I do on my birthday?  Go and jump in a creek.
Wendy (Olivia's mom) is catching crawdads.
The gang heads back to my place, looking for pretty rocks as we go.
Tom made this drawing while he was here.  (Which reminds me...time for me to get back to work...)
